Mission of The Rotary Foundation

The Rotary FoundationThe Rotary Foundation is the backbone of all the charitable work that Rotarians do. Our Foundation has earned a five-star (highest) rating from Charity Navigator, the independent organization that rates non-profits.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Rotary Foundation helps fund Rotary’s humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives. The Foundation leads the charge on worldwide Rotary campaigns of eradicating polio and promoting peace. All other projects start at the club level – that is, each club may apply for Rotary Foundation grants to help support the humanitarian need that concerns them most.

No dues go to support The Rotary Foundation (although some clubs suggest a voluntary contribution on their membership dues notice). Rotarians and friends of Rotary support the Foundation’s work through voluntary contributions at whatever financial level they are most comfortable.

It’s important to remember that the need never ends, and therefore, neither should the giving.

Rotarians can donate to each of three funds:

1.Annual Fund. Each gift to the Annual Fund helps Rotary clubs take action to create positive change in communities at home and around the world. Contributions to the Annual Fund are transformed into grants that fund local and international humanitarian projects, scholarships, and activities, such as vocational training teams. Each year, our District receives a block grant of one-half previous giving to support the humanitarian projects that our clubs choose. The other half of the by the Rotary Foundation in the World Fund to “match” our club’s projects as well as those projects led by other clubs and Districts around the world.

Polio Plus. Rotary, along with our partners, has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Rotarians have helped immunize more than 2 billion children against polio in 122 countries. We are close to eradicating polio, but until the job is finished worldwide, children everywhere remain at risk – and polio eradication will remain Rotary’s primary humanitarian goal.
Endowment (previously called the Permanent Fund). Rotary’s Endowment Fund mostly grows through Planned Giving, and funds are invested in perpetuity. A percentage of the total value of the Endowment Fund is spent annually to benefit current and future Foundation grants and programs. It is the Endowment that supports the Rotary Peace Fellows program. The Foundation has set a goal of $1 billion in Endowment Fund assets and gift commitments by 2025.

Our group goal is expressed beautifully by Paulo Costa, 1990-91 President of Rotary International.

"Rotary International's masterpiece is The Rotary Foundation. It transforms our dreams into splendid realities ... it is the most generous expression of Rotarian generosity -- a generosity that not only brings benefits but also brings help and cooperation to solve the problems that affect mankind. The Rotary Foundation achieves the best that mankind can possibly achieve." --

It is the wish of your Foundation Team that each member and club in District 6880 help, to the best of their ability, to support the Rotary Foundation.
