Join the Rotary Revolution

 RotaryRevolutionSamAdams

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your District Governor for the 2018-19 Year. Together, we will build on Rotary's wonderful history and in the coming year make some history of our own in District 6880. This Directory has valuable information about our expanded District Leadership Team as well as Budget Information and related links to Rotary.

RI President Barry Rassin's theme is simple, Be The Inspiration. I take those words seriously. The root word of inspire comes from the Latin term "breathe", in the sense of imparting a truth or idea to someone.

GOAL # 1
And boy am I going to BREATHE! I plan to run two miles at every club and raise awareness and support for the Polio Plus campaign. Hopefully, it will INSPIRE each of you to join me on this trek or give generously through your club to END POLIO NOW.

RESULT: ALL CLUBS CONTRIBUTE TO THE END POLIO NOW CAMPAIGN.

GOAL # 2
As Rotarians we must CONNECT with each other and our community for our common goal, Service Above Self. As I go from club to club we will award a Paul Harris Fellow to a deserving member who has been able to make that connection. Hopefully, this ceremony will INSPIRE others by donating to the Rotary Foundation or giving of themselves in service to others.

RESULT: AT LEAST 50 NEW PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS

GOAL # 3
In order to TRANSFORM the world around us with the values of Rotary, we must continue to grow and be relevant by "Doing Good in the World," as Arch Klumph, the founder of The Rotary Foundation, proclaimed. To that end, the District Membership Chairs have created a healthy competition between The Blue Sector (Areas 1,2,3,4,5, and 7) and the Gold Sector (Areas 6,8,9,10) with great prizes for the Member, Club and Area with the highest net membership as of June 30, 2019. Every Club President and District officer is asked to bring in at least two new members. We can ask our membership for no less unless we lead by example.

RESULT: DISTRICT GROWTH INCREASES 3%

GOAL # 4
But, that's not all! We have a goal to start new clubs in viable and willing communities. Please help by identifying leaders to charter clubs in towns, cities and even corporate settings that have the potential of "Making a Difference" to the people in them.

RESULT: THREE NEW CLUBS OR SATELLITES FOR DISTRICT.

GOALS # 5, 6 AND 7
Our District enjoys a healthy Youth Services program, but there is always room for improvement. We have a goal to add Rotaract and Interact Clubs.

Moreover, our District is in the process of getting certified to once again participate in the Youth Exchange Program. And speaking of Exchanges, are you aware that Rotary International recently announced Districts can once again conduct Group Cultural Exchanges (used to be GSE) for young people between 25-40 including Rotarians and non-Rotarians? We can design a GCE to fit our District's interests and build world understanding which allows us to again create an experience that can be of great value to so many.

Members will have two opportunities to attend Rotary Day at Camp ASCCA in July.
Each Club need only attend once to realize the amazing impact that has on these special campers and the wonderful 40 plus year relationship Rotary enjoys in providing much needed resources from our District. The JINGLE JUMP this December hopes to have record jumpers.

RESULT: INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES TO REACH OUT TO YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS

GOAL # 8
We will also establish a partnership with our sister district in north Alabama, District 6860, and the Alabama Council of Economic Education, to support sponsorship of the Stockmarket Game that reaches over 10,000 students throughout Alabama.
School children will gain many valuable skills to help them learn how to manage money. Rotarians may present the local awards and invite these financial wiz kids to meetings each fall and spring.

RESULT: OUTREACH TO 10,000 STUDENTS RAISING OUR PUBLIC IMAGE AND VALUE

GOAL # 9
One of the touchstones of Rotary is the Rotary Foundation's Grant program. Our District goal is to provide clubs with more opportunities to positively impact their neighborhoods and beyond. For example, our District will participate in National Immunization Day by sending
a Rotarian to help immunize children. Global Grant funds may reach as far a s Cambodia, Africa and even help neonatal clinics in Mexico, just to name a few.

RESULT: RAISE $250,000 FOR THE ANNUAL FUND, 50% OF CLUBS SUBMIT A GRANT.

GOAL # 10
The Heart of America Zone Institute will be in Montgomery in October providing leadership training for District Governors Elect and for Emerging Leaders from fourteen states.and 26 Districts. We will serve as a support arm for this important event.
Rotarians from throughout our District will meet in Birmingham for our Annual convention in April of 2019 and have a roaring good time as the Talledega 500 comes to town. We want to increase participation and attendance so we will once again join forces with our sister District 6860 to RevUp Rotary. One lucky Rotarian who attends will even get a special surprise. Our Mid-year conference will be in January in Montgomery with great speakers and entertainment and RLI.

RESULT: CONDUCT ROTARY EVENTS IN OUR DISTRICT WITH GEATER PARTICIPATION

GOAL # 11
Clubs, led by their president, establish goals for the year. As the old saying goes, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Make sure your Club is on track with its own goals, track progress and attain the coveted Rotary Citation (formerly Presidential Citation)

RESULT: 90% OF CLUBS ENTER GOALS BY AUGUST 1. 50% EARN THE ROTARY CITATION BY JUNE 30, 2019

GOAL #12.
TO BE DECIDED BY YOUR CLUB! What will you do to start a revolution in your club? Look around you and see how you can BE THE INSPIRATION by filling the gap, righting a wrong, lending a hand, or helping those in need. With strength in numbers, get you club on board to take the next step, to take the challenge, and to be a servant leader.

RESULT: WHAT WILL IT BE?

I started out with breaking down the word INSPIRE. I want to conclude by breaking up the word GOAL to GO AL! Let's Go Alabama to improve the world around us with fun, fellowship and faith in our Rotary family. Please join this Rotary Revolution by "Doing Good in the World".
