Matching Grants and DDF

District 6880 fully supports The Rotary Foundation's Humanitarian Matching Grant Program, as well as augmentation of those grants by using District Designated Funds (DDF.) Humanitarian Matching Grants are one of the best way's for a Rotary Club to make a difference in the world via the International Avenue of Service. The Matching Grants Program assists Rotary Clubs and Districts in carrying out world Community Service Humanitarian projects in cooperation with Rotarians of another country.

This program has grown tremendously over the past 5 years. Between 1965 and 2000 there were 10,000 Matching Grants over 35 years. Between 2000 and 2005 there were 10,000 Matching Grants!

There are two grant types available to Rotary Clubs: Competitive Matching Grants from US $5,000 - $25,000 and Competitive Matching Grants
US $25,001 - $150,000

Make sure you get the most 'Bang for you Buck'! The Foundation will match from World Fund (TRF) at US $0.50 match for every US $1 cash contribution that the club makes. To maximize your funds utilize the District Designated Funds (DDF) program and get US $1 match for every US $1 from the District Designated Fund (DDF) contribution (SHARE) from the Foundation.

Applications can be accepted from July 1st to March 31 for Non-Competitive grants and December 31 for next year for Competitive grants.

So what is the World Fund? The World Fund takes monies donated from the District and invests them. These funds come from the District’s total Annual Program Funds. Fifty percent of these funds are raised three years prior. These funds are available to be used for Rotary’s match in Matching Grants, Individual Grants (currently in moratorium), and to send Group Study Exchange teams into the field.

How to get started -

Find a project: www.matchinggrants.org can help you with this, as well as the Rotary International website, www.rotary.org. Then make contact with Rotarians of another country to facilitate joint cooperation on both ends. Then confirm the project is still open, the cost and the POC. Determine   how much the other club can fund (either through cash or by DDF.) At this point call Joe Smith to discuss DDF funds for matching grants at (334) 475-0417. Then just fill out the application and send it in. Once approved, monitor the progress and fill out activity completion reports.

Here is an example of how this program works, EVEN IF YOUR CLUB HAS NO MONEY TO PUT INTO IT!!!!

Example: $20k project in a foreign (non US) country.

Host partner responsibilities:
Project country’s club raises $5k cash
Project country’s District (DDF) matches $1 for $1 - nextg $5k
Project country’s World Fund match $7500
Match 1:1 for DDF & .5:1 for cash –sub total $17,500 and request $2500 from partner

International Partner:
District 6880 club $0
6880 District DDF $1250
6880 District world match $1250
Total 6880 contribution - $2500

Total - Project Club $17,500 + $2500 = $20k
