Joe Saloom

Joe_SaloomA native of Enterprise, Alabama, Joe's first involvement with Rotary was as a Group Study Exchange member to India in 1985. Soon after his return, he accepted an invitation to join the Rotary Club of Enterprise, thereby becoming a third generation Rotarian. In 1987-88 Joe served as Club President, and in 1991 was named Rotarian of the Year. In 1993 Joe moved to Montgomery and transferred his membership to the Rotary Club of Montgomery. He has served the downtown club as a Director, and Rotary District 6880 as an Assistant Governor, Assistant Governor Coordinator, and 2007-08 Group Study Exchange Leader to Brazil - coming full circle. Joe is a Rotary Foundation Benefactor, Bequest Society member, multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and a Charter Member of the District 6880 Paul Harris Society. He has 23 years of perfect attendance.

Joe received his Bachelor of Science degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1972. He was employed for four years as a toxicologist by a private clinical laboratory before being employed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. He served as a forensic scientist for 26 years and retired in 2005. He attended law school in 1997-99 and was admitted to practice law in Alabama and theFederal Middle District of Alabama in 2000. He currently works with Rountree & Associates, LLC in Montgomery.

An active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Mt. Meigs, Joe served on the Vestry as Senior Warden and serves as a Lay Ecumenical Minister. He has served on the boards for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Ducks Unlimited, and the Chemical Addictions Program. Joe is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and has served as Squadron Commander, Alabama Wing Legal Officer, Southeast Region Inspector General, and is currently the AL Wing Legislative Liaison Officer.

Joe's hobbies include flying, hunting, fishing, and shooting. He is married to the former Ruth Blankenship, and they have three children and three grandchildren. Their daughter Manera is a fourth generation Rotarian, who was also a RYLA participant and a Rotary Youth Exchange fellow. He will serve District 6880 as Governor for the 2010-11 Rotary Year.
